NAS Whidbey Island

The reason NAS Whidbey is unrated is because I haven't personally sampled their wares, but I received a splendid e-mail from MSCS(SW) Reiher, their accountable Food Service Officer who volunteered a photo of one of their meals, as well as photos of their (spacious and quite impressive) dining facilities. Mr. Reiher takes great pride in his work and insists on the same enthusiasm from his workers. His explanation for the quality of their meals is "A primary difference between Navy and Air Force facilities are that NAVY Galleys are run and operated by active-duty NAVY personnel. ".

Not surprisingly, within the PACNORWEST Region, ALL FOUR GALLEYS earned 5-Star Accreditation in 2001. He additionally noted the variety in their dining facilities by writing "At NAS Whidbey we not only offer the traditional main serving line offering a choice of entrees and sides (along with Chuck Wagon delivery service to the flight line), but a large all-you-can-eat Salad Bar, a Speed Line of Hamburgers, Chicken Patties and Chili-Cheese Fries, and a Build-Your-Own Deli Bar.

The unbridled pride in their facilities and products was clear to see, and I will gladly take up their offer to come dine with them the next time I crew rest at McChord. Kudos folks, you seem to be doing a wonderful job!
