After recent e-mails Monty Dunn, the 305th Services
Marketing Manager, I received this photo of a typical McGuire box
lunch. Seems to be lots of meat on the sandwich and that's real mayo,
not the "salad dressing" stuff we usually get. Now comes the bad
news... On my last trip I went through McGuire and what appeared was
somewhat different. As I'd shown with Ramstein, the best value for your
buck is to order two small lunches for the same cost as one big one.

This is McGuire's E-3 lunch. Lots of goodies in it but when compared to
the menu offered to crews, I found it was missing the peanuts and
yogurt, replaced the advertised plum with a pear, and replaced the
fruit punch with apple juice.

Here's McGuire's 6-B lunch. This one was missing the peanuts, pudding,
raisins, replaced the plum with a pear, ADDED celery & carrots, and
offered Italian dressing. Uhm, I don't like Italian. But this is war,
and sacrifices must be made, right? So how do you get the best deal?
The small lunches were exactly half the cost of a big meal (which they
sent a photo of above). Now take a look at what I got for the same
price below...

Not half bad for $2.80, eh? That's enough to keep you going on a double
A/R with 45 minutes of holding. My advice? Skip the big lunch and order
two small ones. In all, it was filling, tasty, and a great value. The
only complaint was that the silverware didn't last to the third
fork-full of salad. They're super-cheap and too thin to be useful. I'd
also like to see the menu updated to offer the crews a choice of
dressing, if possible and if the accessories for a small meal differ
from a large, please let us know on the meal order form. Kudos for the
Mountain Dew (the airlift version of the amphetamines the fighter jocks
get). Good meal, guys!
Got an e-mail from one of McGuire's finest pilots who tells me things
have changed a bit. He writes:
You may want to revise your comments on the KWRI meals as they have
change for the worst in the last couple of months. Smaller portions and
lower quality are now the norm. Not to mention that a jug of coffee
will now cost you $4.80 and it still tastes like burnt dirt.
Ed. Note: I suppose it's still better than Dover, where coffee is NOT
even on the menu and is unavailable to crews.

Got an e-mail from Lance who reports the latest
changes for the worse at QuagMire Airplane Patch. It seems the small
meals are getting smaller but the best bet is still buying two small
ones instead of one big one. The small one shown above is pretty nasty.
Chicken sandwich, slice of tomato, and the reat that you see.
