Langley AFB

Rating: 3

I received an e-mail from SSgt Steve West, a brother flight engineer who recently experienced a Langley Lunch. He was unable to get a photo, but insists that he will get one next time and waste the $3.00 just to show the rest of us a photo of what we've been missing. With his permission, the text of the e-mail follows:

I had the misfortune of obtaining a box lunch there. This took place a few months ago, so the situation MAY have improved, in fact it had nowhere to go but up. It seem that the Flight Kitchen had recently moved, and nobody knew where it was/is. After several crewbus transfers (the equivelent of getting from the Pentagon to the Capitol on the DC Metro at peak volume) I arrived there. It's at the Main Dining Facility if you wish to note for future reference. I had called about an hour prior (over the phone, w/o a menu, as menus did not even exist) to submit our order for 5 lunches. They had not even been started yet, and I can't see that they do THAT much business to be THAT slow. After waiting an additional 25 minutes, I paid for the meals and waited for a crew bus to take me back to the plane. Upon arrival, we found a very small amount of food, compared to other kitchens I've patronized (Andrews and Hickam come to mind-both A+) and 3 of the meals that supposedly had the same supplement were nothing alike. They did all come in the same type of box, to their credit. The food wasn't even all that great. So, in short:

- Difficult to find/get to
- Difficult to order (no menu available, and if it was it never got distributed)
- Small amount of food
- No specific supplement packet
- Poor food quality

Thanx for your time. In the future, I'll walk to the food court.
